2) Royals Fundraiser Feb 17: LAST CALL for Ticket Sales + Pickups

The Royals are playing the Everett Silvertips, tomorrow, Feb. 17 at 3:05pm.

3) REMINDER: Wild Robot Screening (Mar. 7)

Please save the date for our Grade 5 Grad Wild Robot fundraiser!

We will be opening up ticket sales soon on the hot lunch website.

Date: March 7
Event: Wild Robot Movie
Location: Lochside Elementary Gym
Time: Doors open 5:30pm, Movie starts at 6:00pm

$5 recommended donation per person.

All children in attendance will be entered in draw to win the Wild Robot book 2 and book 3.

4) In Case You Missed It: Important Administrative Update

In case you missed it, our beloved Principal sent out a heartfelt update to the community recently. The message is pasted below! We thank her for her dedicated service to Lochside and wish her the best as she levels up in her leadership role for Saanich Schools:

"Dear Lochside Community,

It is with mixed emotions that I share the news of my appointment as Director of Instruction for Saanich Schools, effective August 01, 2025.

I am happy that I get to continue in my role as Principal of Lochside Elementary for the remainder of this school year and I look forward to continuing collaboration with staff, and LEPAC, to ensure Lochside is the best place for our students to thrive and learn.

I will be sad to leave the Lochside community as it has been my "home-base" for most of my career. I had my first volunteer position here in 1998, and that experience solidified my decision to go into teaching. Having the privilege of being a Kindergarten teacher for this amazing community was the highlight of my teaching career, and I truly felt so lucky to be able to come back in the capacity of Principal just in time to see my last Kindergarten class graduate from grade 5 and move on to middle school. I hold so much gratitude towards this community for all of the care and support I have received over the years.

Over the next few weeks Superintendent, Dave Eberwein, will be meeting with Lochside staff and LEPAC to discuss their hopes for the incoming Principal who will start in September 2025.

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday. Have a wonderful Family Day long weekend.

5) Sign up: Limited Space ~ The World Cups Soccer Festival

One of the longest running soccer tournaments is back - The World Cups Soccer Festival!

It's two days over the Fri/Sat of Easter Weekend (April 18-19) and you honestly don't need to have any experience. Teams are made at random, and it's a safe way for kids to practice meeting new people and having level games that are managed so there are no blow outs. It's at the JDF fields (1767 Island Highway, Victoria, BC, CA, V9B 1J1) and super fun!

Cost: $45 (Register soon as space is limited!)

The school that has the most players registered gets $1000 for their school.

If your kid doesn't like the soccer in the end, at least they get to watch a fun parachute show at the opening ceremonies...

6) Final Reminder: Sign Up 8-Week Parenting Course (Feb. 18 to Apr. 22)

A parent shared information with our principal about an upcoming 8-week Parenting Course called, “Sidestepping the Power Struggle”, for parents of children of all ages.

It runs for eight Tuesday evenings, from Feb 18 to Apr 22.

This course will be led by Dr. Allison Rees, an experienced clinician, who has been teaching LIFE Seminars courses, counselling families, and training other professionals here in Victoria for the past 30+ years.

Orders for the next 10 fun lunch dates are open now. Orders will close at 7:00pm on Thursday the week before a given date (example - orders will close at 7:00pm on January 16 for the January 24th fun lunch). If finances prohibit your participation, please contact Principal Takhar.

💜 Fun lunch reminders:

Please make sure to send your kiddo(s) with lunch if you do not plan to purchase fun lunch.
If you do order, it's a good idea to send your kiddo(s) with some options to complement the fun lunch if they are picky eaters.
If your child is absent the day of the fun lunch, please be aware that they may forfeit the lunch, as it may may not keep for long or get donated.
